Conditions of a Victorian Game Licence

• It is a condition of every Victorian Game Licence that the holder must comply with all the requirements under the Wildlife Act 1975 and the Wildlife (Game) Regulations 2024.


• The Game Licence should be carried in the field while hunting and must be produced for inspection at the demand of an Authorised Officer or Victoria Police member.


• The Game Licence holder should also act in accordance with the Firearms Act 1996, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 and the National Parks Act 1975 when hunting game.

Conditions of an authorisation

• Authorisations can be issued under the Wildlife Act 1975 to enable people to engage with game species outside of recreational hunting. This includes areas such as research and destruction of game.


• It is a condition that the holder of an authorisation must adhere to all conditions, limitations or restrictions of the authorisation


• An authorisation is subject to the condition that the holder of the authorisation must allow inspection by an Authorised Officer, at any reasonable time, of any dwelling house specified in the authorisation for the purpose of monitoring compliance with the Wildlife Act 1975, associated regulations or the conditions of the authorisation.

General Terms and Conditions

• In accordance with the Wildlife (Game) Regulations 2024, a Game Licence is required to hunt Deer, Duck or Quail in Victoria. A Game Licence issued by the Game Management Authority (GMA) is valid in Victoria only.


• All hunters applying for a Game Licence for “Game Birds - including Duck” or Deer (Stalking and Hounds) must have firstly passed the Waterfowl Identification Test or Hound Hunting Test, this includes junior hunters who have previously been issued a Junior Provisional Licence.


• The minimum age for obtaining a Game Licence is 12 years. A Game Licence is generally issued for three years but may be issued for one year, if required.


• The Concession amount is only available to the holder of a current ‘Pensioner Concession Card’, ‘Health Care Card’ or ‘Veterans Affairs Card’ (refer to Concession Entitlement in this application).


• Your payment of the Concession amount is your declaration that you are an eligible person within the meaning of the State Concessions Act 2004. You must be able to prove your eligibility by producing a valid Concession Card at the request of an Authorised Officer.


• A person who holds a Game Licence must notify the GMA if he or she changes his or her residential address within 14 days after changing address.

There are strict requirements regarding Firearms Licences, firearms registration and the possession of crossbows in Victoria. Firearm Safety
The GMA endorses the Firearms Safety Code, which was prepared by the Firearms Consultative Committee and promotes safe firearms handling practices. Game Licence holders should know the ten basic safety rules before handling firearms and insist that anyone accompanying the hunt must follow these rules. Game Management Surveys
Each year, the GMA surveys Game Licence holders on their hunting experience and conducts research into the harvest of game species. The GMA also conducts research into the social and economic attributes of hunting.
Personal information, such as your email address or telephone number, may be disclosed to a third party acting on behalf of the GMA for the purpose of research. Personal information is handled in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. Research may be conducted over the phone by email or face-to-face. Please ensure that your email address and telephone number is kept up to date.

Information Privacy
The GMA is committed to protecting your Personal Information in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. This Privacy Statement applies to the collection and use of personal information, voluntarily provided by you, in relation to administration of Game Licences and authorisations administered under the Wildlife Act 1975. A Game Licence or authorisation may not be issued if the information required on this application form is not provided.
